Lesson 3 · Ages 6–9
Learning to Pray
Prayer is talking and listening to God. Jesus taught us the Our Father.
Prayer is talking with God and listening to him. God is our loving Father, and he always wants to hear from us.
We can pray in many ways:
- Thank you prayers: for family, food and friends.
- Sorry prayers: when we have done something wrong.
- Please prayers: for people who are sick or sad, and for ourselves.
- Praise prayers: telling God how great and good he is.
Jesus’ friends asked him, “Lord, teach us to pray.” So Jesus taught them the Our Father. We pray it at every Mass.
We begin our prayers with the Sign of the Cross: “In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.”
You can pray anywhere: when you wake up, before meals, on the way to school, and before you sleep. God is always listening.
